During the comprehensive search process, Abby impressed faculty, staff, and parents with her positive energy and thoughtfulness. She is an experienced educational leader with a track record of building genuine relationships with students, teachers, and families. I am excited to work with Abby and to introduce her to our school community.

With almost two decades of experience in independent schools, seven of those spent at The Swain School, Abby joins us most recently from Harrisburg Academy, where she served as the Assistant Head of School. In her role, she led school-wide professional development initiatives, chaired the DEIJ committee, expanded school-wide social-emotional programming, and led the academic programming sections of the strategic planning process. In her previous role as the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School, Abby implemented a new full-day and full-year early childhood program, created a student support system, and implemented new reading and writing workshop programs.

Prior to her time at Harrisburg Academy, Abby spent time at Seven Generations Charter School in Emmaus as a fifth-grade teacher and at The Swain School where she served as a preschool and fourth-grade teacher, Director of the Theatre Arts Program, History Department Chair, and Student Activities Coordinator. During her time at Swain, Abby created and supervised the Middle School advisory program, created and implemented a school-wide drama curriculum, and implemented the after-school activities program for grades K-8, among many other duties.

Abby has published numerous papers in industry journals, as well as conducted TV interviews and podcasts on a range of educational topics. She earned her bachelor’s degree in theatre from Muhlenberg College and her master’s as well as her doctorate in education from Lehigh University.

Abby’s Comments

Having started my professional career at The Swain School, I am delighted to return to the Lehigh Valley and rejoin the Moravian Academy community. During the interview process, I was warmly welcomed to campus and witnessed firsthand the community’s deep and sustained commitment to the new mission statement that promises an environment of love and understanding for our children to learn and grow. As the new Director of the Downtown Campus and in collaboration with our expert and experienced faculty, I look forward to honoring Moravian’s vision by championing an inclusive environment and forming strong relationships within our community to continue our long legacy of educational excellence.

At this time, we are also beginning the search for another Assistant Director of the Downtown Campus. Along with George Andriko and Abby, this person will complete the Downtown Campus leadership team for the year ahead.
