Athletic News Update: February 28th, 2020

February 28, 2020

A big weekend coming up for the Lions both in the pool and on the court!

The District XI boys and girls swimming championships have arrived and our swimmers are ready to swim fast at Parkland High School this afternoon and Saturday.  The events will start today 2:45 pm and will resume on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Good luck to all of our swimmers!

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to celebrate a first in Moravian Academy’s athletic program history as Alexa Fegley '22 won gold at the District XI AA Diving Championship!  Congratulations to Alexa as she will now compete at Bucknell University at the PIAA Diving Championships on March 14th.

Check out this article published in today’s Morning Call highlighting some challenges that Coach Danaher has had to endure this season. This speaks volume to the perseverance and passion Coach Danaher has for working with our student-athletes!

After the District Swimming Championships, please head west on 78 to support our Varsity Girls’ Basketball team!  The girls will play for the District XI title as they face Mahanoy Area High School in Martz Hall located in Pottsville, PA. Tipoff is set for 2:30 pm.  Regardless of the outcome, the team’s season will continue as they have qualified for the PIAA State Tournament.  The first round will take place on Friday, March 6th at a location and time yet to be determined. Stay tuned!\

Our Varsity Boys’ Basketball team’s season came to an end last weekend as they lost in the District tournament.  With 17-7 final season record and a first-place finish in the Colonial League East Division with a 13-5 league record, the boys should be proud of how they competed and represented our program and school.

Girls Lax @ Princeton (1)Although our winter season is not finished, spring sports are upon us with the beginning of practices on Monday March 2nd. In preparation for the spring season, Coach Barnhardt with members of the girls’ lacrosse team attended an open practice session at Stuart Country Day School in Princeton. The girls then attended a Princeton vs. University of Virginia Women’s Lacrosse contest to finish the day.  A great way to get ready for the season!

Please make sure to reach out to our spring sport coaches if you have not done so already to make sure your student-athletes are ready to start practices:

Boys' Lacrosse: Head Coach Mr. Patrick Conroy

Girls' Lacrosse: Head Coach Mrs. Kathryn Barnhardt

Baseball: Head Coach Mr. Chris Eckman

Boys' Tennis: Head Coach Mr. Rick Brown

Softball (with Notre Dame of Green Pond): Head Coach Ms. Fran Rowley

Track & Field (with Notre Dame of Green Pond): Head Coach Mr. Art Corrigan

Preparation for the fall of 2020 athletics’ season has already begun.  Please note that pre-season will begin on Monday, August 17th.

Good luck to all of the Athletes as they continue the winter season!  Please stay up to date with our teams by following them on the Moravianathletics.org site.

Go Lions!
