Athletics News Update: January 10, 2020
Happy New Year from Moravian Athletics! Our teams returned to action as soon as the new year began.
Our Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams got us started in 2020. The girls traveled to Palmerton and won the first contest of the year by beating the Blue Bombers by a 57-50 score. They followed that victory with three more by defeating Wilson, Bangor, and Saucon Valley. The girls’ record currently stands at 8-3 and they will look to finish a busy week as they host Catasauqua on Friday night. The team stands in 2nd place in the East Division of the Colonial League and is in 3rd place overall.
The Varsity Boys’ team also returned to action on January 3rd by hosting Palmerton. The Lions played a strong game and also defeated the Blue Bombers by a 50-42 score. The boys continued their winning ways in the new year by beating Bangor on the road and Saucon Valley at home. They will finish the week with an important Colonial League match up as they travel to Catasauqua Friday night. Their record is 7-3 and are in 3rd place in the East Division and 4th place overall.
The swim team also returned to the pool this past week. The teams traveled to Nazareth for their first match up of the new year. The girls’ team lost by a score of 110-70 with the boys also losing by a 116-60 score. However, the meet was not without a significant achievement as Pepper Ritchey '21 broke the IM record at the Nazareth pool. Congratulations! The teams will return to action as they travel to Phillipsburg for a Saturday morning meet.
