Our student-athletes have been in the process of navigating the end of the semester, the weather, and a busy competition schedule.
We had the opportunity to recognize our senior Boys’ Basketball players and their families on Friday, January 12, 2024. Congratulations to Kyle Bolden '24, Joseph Phillips '24, and Jackson Reid '24. We will recognize our senior girls’ basketball players on Monday, February 5, and our senior swimmers on Friday, February 9.
A big shout-out goes to the Middle School basketball players from the Historic Downtown and Swain Campuses that came to support the Varsity Girls’ team last Monday. They also had a little fun playing a knockout game at half-time with the winner going home with some MA swag!
Boys' and Girls' Swimming:
The boys’ team has continued their winning ways in the pool. After taking a little break during the end of the semester from competitions, the team returned to action and defeated Saucon Valley, Pocono Mountain West, and Salisbury to remain unbeaten. Their record currently stands at 10-0. The girls’ team also returned to action and had positive results defeating Pocono Mountain West and Salisbury, but losing to Saucon Valley.
Their record is currently 4-6. With four meets left in the regular season, both teams will aim for some fast swims as individuals will attempt to qualify for District times. The District XI Swimming Championships will take place on March and March 2 at Parkland High School.
The team’s record is 5-14 overall. With three regular season games left, they will look to finish the year on a positive note. One of the bright spots of the season has been the performance of ninth-grader, Luna Lopez '27, who is averaging 11.3 points per game and is in the top 25 scorers in the Lehigh Valley (Here are the area’s top 50 scorers in girls basketball). As mentioned above, we will recognize our five seniors, Emily Cho '24, Alicia Gordon '24, Quinn Lauden '24, Lena Nifong '24, and Ava Noel '24 on Monday, February 5, before the beginning of the home competition with Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.
The team has four competitions left in their season and will look to improve on their 6-13 record. Senior guard, Jackson Reid '24, is having a strong season and is averaging 17.5 points per game. He is among the top 15 scorers in the Lehigh Valley (Boys basketball’s Fab 15: A look at who continues to light up the scoreboard in Lehigh Valley hoops). With only one home competition remaining on February 7, we will look for some strong support from our students and community to end the year.
We are also looking forward to the spring athletics season! Spring sport practices will begin on Monday March 4. Please continue to log on to moravianathletics.org to access practice and game schedules.
