Athletics Update: October 22, 2021
It’s been a busy week on the course, fields, and courts for the Lions!
Evan Eichenlaub '23 got us started as he competed in the PIAA Golf Individual Championships this past Monday. Under some challenging windy conditions, Evan earned a medal with a 6th place finish after shooting a 76. After a difficult start, he was even on the back nine to finish the golf season.
On Wednesday, Isabella '22 and Chessie Bartolacci '24 won the District XI doubles tournament by defeating the doubles team from Bethlehem Catholic by a 6-4, 6-0 score. The team is getting ready to start the PIAA team championships. The girls will travel to Birchwood Tennis club in Clark Summit on Tuesday 10/26 at 2 PM to face Wyoming Seminary in the 1st round.
Also on Wednesday, our cross-country teams participated in the Colonial League Championship. The boys’ team finished in 6th place while our girls ended up in 9th place. Krish Gupta '24 was our top finisher for the boys’ team with a 24th place finish with a time of 18:58. Lily Eyvazzadeh '22 was our top girl's finisher with a 31st place finish and a time of 24:28. Both teams will return to action for the District XI Championship meet on Wednesday 10/27. Our boys’ team will run at 3:40 pm while our girls will run at 4:20 PM.
Our field hockey, girls’ soccer, and boys’ soccer teams all were defeated in the Colonial League semi-finals. Field hockey lost to Palmerton by a 5-3 score. After being down 4-0 at the half, the team rallied in the second half but the halftime deficit proved to be too much in the end. The girls' and boys' soccer teams both gave up early goals that proved to be the difference in the outcome. Both the girls’ team and the boys’ team were defeated by Northwestern. However, there are more competitions to look forward to!
The teams will now shift their focus to the District XI Championships. The dates, sites, and times of the games have not been announced. The brackets will be released this coming Sunday. Click on the links below to follow:
