Athletics Update: September 29, 2023
Highlight of the week needs to go to our varsity girls’ tennis team who swept the field in the Colonial League Championship.
The team capped off an impressive season in league play by also capturing the league tournament title. The girls won gold at every spot in the line-up:
1st. Singles - Chessie Bartolacci '24
2nd. Singles - Laura Li '26
3rd. Singles - Penelope Blomfield '27
1st. Doubles - Sunny Chen '24 and Kanchan Gupta '24
2nd. Doubles - Chloe Dahl '26 and Anika Mehta '27
The girls will take a hiatus from team competitions as Chessie Bartolacci, Penelope Blomfield, and Laura Li compete in the District XI Singles Tournament. The event will begin Monday, October 2, at Lehigh University. The next team competition will be on Monday, October 9, in the District XI Team quarterfinal round.
The golf team has been off this week and focusing on their preparation for the upcoming week. Next up is the District XI Golf Championships that will take place on October 3 starting at 8:30 AM at Steel Club in Bethlehem.
The boys’ soccer team has posted three impressive victories but will likely be challenged as they close out a busy seven days by traveling to Cedar Crest College where they will face Allentown Central Catholic. This looks to be a good test for the boys as they prepare for postseason play. The team is 9-2 overall and is currently in 3rd place in the Colonial League standings. We are also looking forward to recognizing our senior soccer players and their families at half-time of the game on Monday, October 2.
The varsity field hockey team posted a great road win as they defeated Bangor by a 5-1 score. They will close out the week with back to back road games as the team travels to Salisbury for a Friday afternoon league game and then will face Parkland for a Saturday morning match up. They will be facing some busy weeks ahead as they head into the bulk of their schedule. The team’s record is 6-3 overall and sits in 1st place in the East Division of the Colonial League and is in 4th place overall. The team will also recognize their seniors and families as they host Wilson on Thursday, October 5.
The boys’ and girls’ cross-country team ran at Pen Argyl this past week. Both teams finished the day with a 2-4 record, but individual performances continue to improve. The boys’ team is currently 9-9 while the girls’ team is 10-8. With only two meets left in the regular season, the team is starting to think about the Colonial League Championship meet set to take place on Wednesday, October 18, at DeSales University.
The girls’ soccer team had a great performance earlier this week as they defeated Northern Lehigh by a 1-0 score. Unfortunately, they could not hold off Palisades at home and suffered a 2-1 set back. The team continues to fight for a Colonial League playoff spot and will likely need to win their two remaining league games to clinch.
Their overall record is 6-6 with a 5-5 league record.
