Spanish students have been working on creating "El Mejor Food Truck," and they had some help from local expert Juan Martínez, owner of Don Juan Mex Grill and Miss Jackson’s Kitchen.
Juan visited my food classes recently to talk to students about his experiences as an immigrant from Dominican Republic and his love of food and cooking. Then, he helped students with their food truck projects. For these projects, each group created a model business proposal for a food truck for arepas or pupusas. In this proposal, written in Spanish, students had to include:
- A business design, logo, and tagline
- A financial analysis that accounts for costs, earnings, and sale prices, and a calculation of how many sales events are needed to earn enough money to pay two employees while having enough income to support your life, among others
- A customer order sheet and receipt
- A flyer or brochure to promote the food truck
On March 29, students presented their food truck concepts.
