Mademoiselle Wert's French 3 classes are using new vocabulary and the subjunctive mood to discuss "les problèmes sociaux" (social problems).
Looking at a variety of moving advertisements on topics ranging from racial inequality to climate change, women's rights and hunger, our students worked together to identify the issue, express a personal opinion and then propose a solution using the subjunctive form of the verb.
Next class, we will use their responses to fine tune some of the vocabulary and grammar as we discuss each issue in more detail. This will be a jumping off point for our final project of the unit - une campagne pour le changement (a Campaign for Change). By the end of this experience, it is my hope that these students will be more aware of these issues, will become better listeners as others express their opinions, and will be equipped to talk about real-world issues in the target language.
Take a look at our "galerie de problèmes sociaux" that took place in Walter Gym on Tuesday and Wednesday.
