Girl Scouts Partner with Blessings in a Backpack
On Friday, November 18, our Girl Scouts partnered with one of our favorite local charities, Blessings In a Backpack.
Our local chapter of Blessings In A Backpack is run by Jessica Schwartz. Each week, Jessica works tirelessly to gather nonperishable food items, and to discreetly send them home with school-aged children who live with food insecurity throughout the Lehigh Valley. This ensures that the children having a reliable food source over the weekends, when they cannot rely on school lunches. As the holidays are upon us, Jessica will be doing a very special Blessings In a Backpack for the children that she serves, by filling it with not only food items, but special holiday gifts as well.
Jessica asked our troop to partner together to wrap these special gifts for the children. However, not only did we wrap 120 gifts, we created 120 Christmas ornaments to be attached to the gifts! Our troop was amazing! The older Girl Scouts teamed up with the younger troop and accomplished all of these sweet acts of service in just an hour and a half! They can do anything they put their minds to!
Additionally, as it is the season of giving, we asked our Junior girls to assist in another special program. As our girls ran such an incredibly successful cookie campaign last year, we had enough troop funds to ask each Junior Girl Scout to do some shopping to help support the Holiday Hope Chest effort. It was an honor to support our Downtown Campus sixth-grade class with their annual Holiday Hope Chest boxes.
