Last Monday when we arrived at our math classroom, we were greeted by a sign that said, “Welcome to Glow Day!”
Our teacher, Mrs. Turcotte, gave us glow sticks and connectors which we used to make necklaces, bracelets, and even earrings. The windows were covered up with blackout curtains, and the room was lit up with brightly colored decorations and glow-up games.
Five stations were set up around the room with games and activities. One game had translucent cups lit with small lights in the bottom. We tossed a bouncy ball into the cups to earn chances to solve questions and win points. Teams competed to earn the most points; my team won with 75 points while the other team had 70.
At the next station, there was a tic-tac-toe board and whichever team answered a question correctly first got to place an X or O on the board. Another station was called Rock or Roll. During this game, you had to choose a cup and underneath it would say either "Rock" or "Roll." If you got a rock you would get negative points, and if you got a roll you would solve a problem and would get either 10, 20, or 30 points. We also played Sudoku and Jenga.
Most of the questions we solved were about ratios and percentages since that is what we have worked on this year. Our favorite parts about Glow Day were the ball toss and tic-tac-toe. There was a unanimous conclusion about Glow Day: We should definitely do it again!
