Our Green Team recycled a Christmas tree and redecorated it with tasty treats for wildlife.
Their most recent project was recycling a Christmas tree. They started by searching the Swain School campus for berries, seeds, twigs, and dried grasses. While scavenging, they learned how seeds and berries serve as a critical food source for wildlife during the winter months. Then they used all these items, as well as slices of apples and oranges, to decorate the tree.
The goal of this project was to extend the use of a fraser fir tree while providing a much needed snack and safe haven for birds and small wildlife during the brutally cold days of winter.
The tree will be on display in the front of the building until all the goodies are gone.
