On the first day of third grade, students in my class discussed the importance of having a growth mindset and “The Power of Yet!”
Students discussed that adding the word “yet” to the end of a sentence can take a negative and turn it to a positive, and also how changing your words can change your attitude. Then, everyone thought about what they can already do well, and what they want to accomplish this year. We set academic goals and made a class “Growth Garden.” A few examples include:
I can't do division YET.
I can't read fast YET.
I don't know how to do art YET.
Watch the third graders grow this year!
