On Friday, October 29, Moravian Academy will be celebrating Halloween. We are looking forward to sharing some safe Halloween festivities on the Downtown Campus.
Students in grades 1-8 will have a non-uniform day! Students may wear Halloween/fall colors or Moravian Academy spirit wear. In the afternoon, students will have the option to put on a Halloween costume. We want to reinforce that participation in Halloween activities, including wearing costumes at school or wearing Moravian gear is completely voluntary. For students who wish to wear a costume in the afternoon, please pack it in a bag or backpack with all of the items labeled with the child’s name.
We expect all costumes worn to adhere to the following school-wide guidelines:
Costumes may not mock another student, faculty member, race, gender, culture, heritage, and religious or lifestyle preference.
Real cultures are best to avoid when choosing costumes as it can open the door to cultural appropriation, missteps, or hurt feelings, and is counter to the respect for others that we promote at Moravian Academy.
Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted. In addition, blood on masks is not permitted.
Costumes that are provocative, revealing or sexual in nature are not permitted.
Costume masks that impede vision or identity are not allowed
Inflatable costumes are not permitted.
Presidential costumes are not permitted to avoid comments or jokes that might be hurtful to others.
Finally, all costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.
If you have any specific questions about costumes, please contact your divisional office for additional clarification. We thank you for helping the Downtown Campus promote a positive Halloween experience for our students as well as the faculty and staff.
