Our fifth grade geologists recently completed their study of the earth by designing and creating 3D models of the layers of the earth.
The study of the earth and creating 3D models of the different layers has become a favorite among our Swain fifth graders. They are tasked with creating a 3D model using any material they want. The goal is to use their imagination, be creative, and demonstrate their understanding of the interior of the earth. This year we saw models crafted from candy, beads, cereal, sand, styrofoam, clay, and wood. Regardless of material used, all the layers needed to be represented and shown in proportionate thickness.
