Ten students received awards at the DECA District 7 Competition held at Lehigh Carbon Community College on Friday, December 6.
Each year students from thirteen area high schools compete at Districts in approximately thirty different events related to the business world. The District level events each consist of a test related to their business category, which was taken about two weeks prior to this event, and a role-play.
On Friday, students were each given a realistic scenario that they must react to in front of a judge. The role-play's generally ask the students to "place" themselves in a managerial position at a corporation and solve a probable conflict the company could encounter. The judges score the students based on their solution to the problem, as well as the student's ability to communicate clearly and show evidence of creativity and effective reasoning. After the role-play's are complete, the scores are combined with the exam scores to calculate the total event score.
