I invited Green Communities' founders- Jonathan Cerdas and Carlos Marin, along with their agronomist, Arturo Valenciano, to share with Lower School Spanish Immersion and post-Spanish Immersion students about life in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica.
Green Communities works to bring sustainable development to the Los Santos region by converting conventional coffee farms into organic ecological coffee farms. With the involvement of student volunteers, Green Communities protects the cloud forests, raises the economic status and awareness of ecology in local communities, while creating mediums for cultural exchange.
Our guests began their day with a presentation to Kindergarten SIP students, then gave a presentation and Q & A session with the 1st through 4th-grade SIP students in the CE Auditorium, discussing their work with sustainability in coffee farming. They rounded out the day with 5th-grade Post Immersion Humanities class.
Students learned about the beauty of the Cloud Forest and the importance of recycling, composting and organic farming in maintaining a healthy environment. The presentations were a great way for students to showcase their Spanish comprehension and conversation skills with our special visitors. ¡Pura Vida!
