MA Swimmers Set Eyes on PIAA Championship
In an article for Lehigh Valley Press News, 2020 District XI Class 2A champion Alexa Fegley '22 discusses her hopes to compete at the PIAA Class 2A Diving Championships after the same event was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
"I had learned new dives between districts and states, and I was looking forward to competing those, and honestly, going to states for the first time, in general, so I was upset, to say the least," Fegley told LVP News's Katie McDonald.
Fegley is currently competing in virtual swim meets at Liberty High School against other Northampton County teams. She has been pushing herself to improve at every competition. Now, she says, "My reverse dive is scoring me fairly high this season along with my inward dive and my front 1 1/2. I just learned a reverse 1 1/2 about a week ago.”
Swimmer Pepper Ritchey '21 was also recently recognized in The Morning Call for her promising performances:
Sprinkled with Pepper: We’ll never know if a District 11 swimmer or diver would have won a state gold medal in Class 2A in 2020, as the meet was canceled on the day coaches and competitors arrived at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium. Moravian Academy’s Ritchey certainly looked prime for a championship swim. She hopes to again qualify for the PIAA meet, as do other top contenders from the area.
In the same piece, Anna Shoudt '21, Lila Mangino '21, and Jade Ware were noted as well.
Coach Shannon Danaher’s Lions are locked and loaded for a run at the District 11 Class 2A title. (They placed second to Blue Mountain a season ago.) The Villanova-bound Ritchey is their linchpin but seniors Anna Shoudt, a district champ in 100 freestyle; Lila Mangino; and Jade Ware provide depth and leadership.
Good luck to the Lions!
