Merle-Smith Campus 2023 Daily Schedule

July 26, 2023

Students in grades 9-12 at the Merle-Smith Campus follow the new daily schedule, a 10-day cycle.

Courses correspond to the letter of each block and occur at different times during the week. An accurate picture of a student’s daily schedule can always be found on myMA under “My Day,” which students will be able to access on their school-provided laptops throughout the school day. Each day begins with a brief Advisory period, which serves as homeroom.  Attendance will be taken.

After two class periods, the entire school is engaged in a period of required Community Time

Assembly is led by our Student Co-Presidents and an opportunity for school announcements and the promotion of positive school culture, as well as for special presentations and guest speakers, who expand our knowledge of each other and the world.

Advisory is a small group meeting, led by a faculty advisor, to build foundational social and emotional learning skills and provide students support in navigating high school and in achieving their goals.

Activity 1 and 2: Clubs and affinity groups are scheduled to meet every other week. All students choose two activities to attend each semester. In the opening weeks of school, students will be exposed to the variety of offerings to aid in their selection process.

Class Meeting: Led by the Grade Deans and student leadership, these all-grade gatherings serve as spaces to deliver developmentally targeted content and skill building activities, in addition to promoting grade bonding.

Chapel: Led by the School Chaplain, weekly chapel is a space of reflection in pursuit of identity development and creating a community of belonging and curiosity of others.

Students are scheduled into 1 of 2 lunch blocks and have 3 remaining periods of the academic day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the last period is Office Hours. This is a time for quiet study, group work, or to receive additional support from a faculty member.
