For these Merle-Smith Campus students, the summer months were filled with international travel, musical performances, and academic achievement.
Nikhil Skandan ‘26 was selected as a member of the High School Honors Band that performed this summer at the Sydney Opera House in Australia as part of the Honors Performance Series, organized by WorldStrides in New York, NY. He plays the alto saxophone and auditioned for this position last year. "Going to Sydney was an incredible experience, one that I will never forget. Touring a wonderful city, meeting great musicians, and performing at the Sydney Opera House made it a truly special trip," he says.
Caleb Greene '26 also embarked on an extraordinary musical journey with the American Music Abroad Silver Tour, a group of 120 talented musicians from the US and Canada.
The tour took them to six European countries, where they graced the stage in each nation for a total of six performances throughout Europe. These countries included Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Caleb showcased his talents in both the Jazz band and the symphonic band on the drums and various percussion instruments, respectively.
"The trip itself was a unique cultural experience where we got to see a lot of different places and experience a variety of different cultures and foods," he says. Significant stops during the tour included visiting three castles, taking a canal tour in Belgium, visiting Mozart's birthplace in Austria, seeing a glacier on top of a mountain in Austria, and visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site in Germany.
