It was awesome having all of the students back in the building on Monday! We opened our doors to 151 students many of them with smiles, eager to see their teachers and peers. The energy in our learning spaces was terrific! There were great stories to be shared, new faces to greet, and new routines to learn.
In our Middle School mid-morning meeting, I shared a vivid memory about watching the United States Women's World Cup team and how being in the moment and being present was important for them as a team, but also will be important for us as we "kick-off" the new school year. My charge for all students was to be present and "when here, focus on school and let other things fade off for a bit of time" and to always remember that, "you have a team of folks here to help - your peers, your teachers, your coaches, and of course, your parents."
Our students also enjoyed a cookout for lunch in God’s Acre where students were able to reconnect with their peers and teachers, and also be introduced to some new friends. It was a beautiful day to eat outside and have a few extra minutes to play and enjoy our wonderful surroundings. The seventh and eighth graders completed Launch Day with brief classroom visits while the sixth graders enjoyed time to familiarize themselves with our buildings and to enjoy a faculty fashion show on uniforms.
The opening day of school is a special time each year, and we are so thankful we get to enjoy it alongside you and the students. We look forward to a great school year in partnership with you.
