Lockdown Drill

September 27, 2019

The safety and welfare of our students, faculty, and staff are our highest priority at Moravian Academy. On Wednesday, October 2nd the Middle School and the Upper School and we will be conducting lockdown drills. We believe the more we educate and drill, the safer and more confident students, faculty, and staff will feel in preparing for any potential crisis situation.

During the drills:

  1. Teachers will quickly sweep areas near/around their classrooms and usher in any students or other school personnel that may be nearby.

  2. Lights will be turned off, doors locked, blinds closed, and classroom door windows covered.

  3. Students and school personnel will remain quiet and in their rooms until an “all-clear” is announced via the intercom.

  4. At the conclusion of the drill faculty and staff will let students know there are resources available if they would like to talk. The divisional Student Support Teams and other faculty will be on hand to talk with any students who choose to process the drill individually.

We have worked closely with expert safety and security consultant 911 Consulting and local authorities to correctly develop this plan. This drill will allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plan and improve our response skills.

Please talk with your student(s) about the drills, if you deem it appropriate. If you feel your child would benefit from further conversation with one of our support staff please be in touch. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students feel safe.

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call or email.

Regards and Be Well,
