Mid-Season Middle School Athletics Update

September 26, 2019

The girls’ soccer team has started off strong. They are currently 1-1. The movement of the ball has been fantastic moving up the field. In the first game, they beat Palisades by a score of 5-1.

They brought that confidence into the next game but lost Blue Mountain. The team bounced back to beat Faith Christian by a score of 2-1. They continue to work hard and improve on their footwork and overall gameplay every day at practice. They are looking forward to their next game in the following weeks.

The boys’ soccer team has had a successful start to the season.  The boys followed up their hard-fought 2-1 win over Pocono Mountain East with a 4-0 victory over Palisades and an 8-0 trouncing of Pocono Mountain West.  Unfortunately, the past few games have been tough losing to three very good teams in Faith Christian, Swain and Brandywine Heights. They will round out their season with rematches against Faith Christian and Palisades.

The XC season is going very well with a roster that is distributed nicely between 6th, 7th and 8th-grade runners. Returning runners, Greg Hine '24 and Krish Gupta '24, are respectively scoring in the top 10 at each colonial league meet this year! Additionally, Joey Oltman, Niko Leyesa and Ryan Cheng have been working on race strategy and showing improvements. On the girl's side, new runners Hanning Yan '25, Tessa Francis '25, and Ava Noel '24 have been showing great improvements in their times. Ava has scored consistently in the top 15 at each meet with this past week's meet at Pen Argyl being her strongest finish. Our 6th-grade team - Sophie Wandall '26, Ambrose Cole '26, Chloee Dahl '26, Alex Cyr '26, and Dylan Hammond '26- have been great assets to the team showing up diligently to practices, working on their mile times and even coming to meets to help with mile splits and to cheer on the team. All in all, this is a very talented and committed team and arrive at each practice and meet showing excellent sportsmanship. They are looking forward to the Palisades League Meet to see about our chances for top ten.

The field hockey team is off to a great start. With only 11 girls in seventh and eighth grade, the team has won 6 games and lost 2. Moravian Academy has outscored opponents 29 to 4. Our offensive leaders are Tori Fegley  '24 (10 goals, 4 assists), Quinn Lauden '24 (7 goals, 3assists), and Megan Dadio '24 (5 goals 7 assists). Newcomer Grayson Domzalski '25 (5 goals, 1 assist) scored the only goal to beat a tough Salisbury team on September 16th. Our midfield is solid with the stick skills and passing ability of Marley Garder '24 (1 goal, 2 assists) and Rayna Malhotra '24 (3 goals, 1 assist). Emma Derby '24 has recorded 6 shutouts in goal with defensive help from Miriam Mira '25, Abby Aemisegeo '25, Alizeh Ali '24, and Anya Chadha '24. The team is focused on constant improvement and works hard to develop positive team chemistry. "Sisters" make the game more fun and unite the team.
