Moravian Academy Launches Summer Explorations 2023

February 22, 2023

My daughter is now 25 years old, but it seems like yesterday that I would begin planning her summer around this time of year.  I wanted to ensure that her summer was filled with both engaging opportunities to learn as well as a lot of fun.

And, of course, it was important for me to know that the adults who would lead the programs I signed her up for were highly skilled in their respective fields.

While I am no longer “in the market” for summer programs, part of me wishes I were because the summer programs on tap at Moravian Academy this coming summer are exciting!  They range from coding and animation to Spanish Immersion and French, with a number of sports and arts camps.  Most are taught by our own faculty!

camp - early learners 1It is often difficult to find camps for students under five years old.  Moravian offers programs from mid-June through early August for Early Learners taught by our dynamic duo from the Swain Campus, Christal Harding and Cassie Monaco.

For budding scientists, mathematicians and engineers, our summer STEM offerings are pretty cool. Science teachers, Brad Pomeroy and JoAnne Daniels, attended Space Academy for Educators at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, during the summer of 2010. They will lead a Space and Aviation Camp at the end of July which will be largely based on NASA Education and Space Camp lessons.  This camp, geared for students in grades 4-6, explores the science, mystery and majesty of the Earth’s atmosphere and outer space. During other weeks of the summer, they will lead camps in coding and ‘bots, geocaching, drones, and agricultural sciencewith hands-on animal, insect, plant, forestry, food science, and conservation investigations!  Finally, through a great partnership with Science Explorers, additional STEM camps are offered throughout the summer.

Summer time is also a great opportunity to expand one’s creativity.  Our Downtown Campus art teacher, Brian Elstein, and Swain Campus art teacher, Angie Lande, will be offering opportunities for students to create through sculpture making, digital animation, and drawing and painting.

We love seeing our students back on campus in the summer.  It gives us an opportunity to extend our already strong relationships with students and families and to see our students learn and grow in new and exciting ways.  We invite you to explore the many offerings and sign up your children while spaces remain open.
