Moravian Alumna Sells T-shirts, Raises Over $12,000 for Pandemic Relief Efforts

July 20, 2020

Marlee Senderowitz ’14 turned a part-time job as a sales rep for University Tees into a pandemic relief effort that raised more than $12,000 for community organizations.

In August 2014, Marlee Senderowitz ’14 was a first-year engineering student at Georgia Institute of Technology. New to college life and immersing herself in everything the school had to offer, she took a part-time job as a sales rep for University Tees. Marlee was a talented saleswoman who enjoyed the work. Even after graduating from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Materials Science Engineering and accepting a position as a full-time engineer, Marlee continued working for University Tees.

When COVID-19 hit, Marlee felt compelled to help. Instead of simply donating her University Tee sales commissions, she wanted to think bigger. Leveraging her long-time partnership with the company, Marlee initiated a t-shirt and sweatshirt sales campaign that targeted specific communities by collecting logos of local area landmarks, beginning with Atlanta, GA. The art department at University Tees then created wearable town-specific commemorative apparel. Proceeds would benefit organizations assisting people in need during the pandemic.

Her idea was a runaway success, earning $1,000 in gross sales during the first day of the campaign. Marlee expanded her efforts, targeting areas including Bethlehem, PA; Erie, PA; Lawrenceville, NJ; Hamilton, NY; Savannah, GA; and Georgetown, DC.

To date, Marlee has donated over $12,000 to the following organizations: The Giving Kitchen, Hamilton Food Cupboard, Mostly Mutts, ATL Family Meal, Capital Area Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest PA, Princeton Area Community Foundation, COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund, St. Luke’s COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund, and the Equal Justice Initiative.

Marlee hopes to double her impact by attaining a sponsor that will match her donations. “I look forward to the day when COVID-19 is in our rearview mirror, but until then, I will continue to help,” says Marlee.
