Neil Deshmukh '20 Named GM Stem for Changemaking Challenge Winner

May 23, 2019

Neil Deshmukh ’20 was recently named a General Motors (GM) STEM for Changemaking Challenge winner.

The STEM for Changemaking Challenge is an initiative by GM in partnership with Ashoka to recognize and support extraordinary young people who have started projects to improve their schools, neighborhoods, and communities through STEM.  In addition to providing venture support of US$30,000, this project aims is to train selected students to build a movement and bring more young people into changemaking.

As a winner, Neil attended an all-expenses-paid trip to a two-day Changemaking summit at GM’s World Headquarters in Detroit, MI earlier this month.  There, he presented his venture, PlantumAI, to GM’s senior executives and engineers, and received feedback from business and technology perspectives. There were intensive workshops for the challenge winners on storytelling to communicate the venture ideas, building the movement and planning how to bring more people into the STEM for Changemaking movement through activities in their own schools and communities. Apart from this summit, there will be various events planned for ongoing mentorship and skills development for the winners.

Congratulations, Neil!
