Recent graduate Neil Deshmukh '20 took home the Senior Best in Fair Award in the INSPO Research & Innovation Competition (IRIC), winning an all-expenses paid trip to Daejeon, South Korea to represent North America in the Korea Science & Engineering Fair. 

Deshmukh also won Best Project in the Sr. Technology/Engineering category, the prize for which is "a remote, 1-2 month, contract-based, paid AI/App Dev. project, with compensation upon satisfactory completion. [It is an] opportunity to work on a hard, practical, industry problem, in an agile environment for one of eXomoonAI's client(s)."

A gold medalist, Deshmukh is among the top 5% of finalists. He was awarded a $20,000 entrance scholarship to the Rochester Institute of Technology; however, he plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall. 

His winning project, An Adaptive, Low-Cost Device for Automated Offline Medical Analysis Utilizing Interpretable Neural Networks with Reinforcement Learning Optimization, explores a method of diagnosing diseases. Deshmukh says, “This scalable method of detecting anomalies before they pose a threat, holds the ability to create clinical impact around the world by profoundly increasing access and scope of medical care.”

According to INSPO Science Canada, the IRIC is judged by “industry leaders, established professors, and other top youths in North America’s premier online science fair.” Moravian Academy was well represented in the competition, as students Okezue Bell '23 and Neha Skandan '21 were also among the top 200 finalists.
