Ninth Grade Makes Kipus

Ninth graders made kipus this week! Kipus are a knot based record keeping system used primarily by the Inca of South America from the 12th - the 16th centuries.

We are currently investigating how various types of government ensure the success of their rule, and the Incan Empire depended heavily on the vast amount of information recorded in the kipus related to demographics, agriculture, and taxes.  If you would like to learn more about kipus, you can check out the video below from the British Museum.
