Native American Heritage Month

November 1st marks the start of Native American Heritage Month and is celebrated to honor the Native Americans who have contributed to the character of our nation. This month is also referred to as the American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. This month is set aside to celebrate the diverse and rich cultures, histories, and traditions of Native Americans. It also is a time to spread awareness about the various challenges faced by the Native Americans in the past and today.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Día de los Muertos lasts for 3 days, beginning on October 31st and is mainly celebrated in Mexico and the United States. It is meant to remember loved ones who have passed away.  On the first day, many people put flowers on the graves of their loved ones and create altars with significant objects. On the second day, people celebrating Día de los Muertos get together to dance, sing, and have a feast together. On the last day, people parade dressed as skeletons. These traditions help those celebrating honor their lost loved ones.

World Kindness Week is November 7-13th

World Kindness Day began on November 13th, 1997 when several humanitarian groups declared it a day for kindness and giving. It was soon transformed into a full week when people are encouraged to practice acts of kindness and do good deeds to help others.
