The Bryan Cameron Education Foundation has announced the recipients of the 2023 Cameron Impact Scholarship, and among them is Okezue Bell '23.
Okezue is the only student from Pennsylvania to receive the award in 2023 and is the first student in the history of Moravian Academy to be a regional finalist.
The members of the Class of 2023 Cameron Impact Scholars, including Okezue, have earned a four-year, impact-based scholarship to cover the full tuition and educational expenses at their chosen collegiate institutions. Scholars are able to attend any U.S. university to which they are accepted, and major in any academic area of their choosing. This prestigious group of young leaders, shares a unified goal of making a positive impact in the greater community and world.
When asked how it feels to have earned this particular scholarship, Okezue says:
It feels amazing! For me, the value of attending an elite university increases significantly, given that there's no financial tradeoff for the scope or type of education that I choose. The award also qualified to me the humanitarian impact that I'm making, whether that be through my entrepreneurial ventures, research, or workshops. Without any financial constraints, I'll really be able to take my college experience to the next level, and potentially invest those resources into other facets of my extracurriculars or academics.
Further details for each Cameron Impact Scholar Recipient, as well as the full list of Interview Finalists may be found here.
The Foundation reviewed the maximum 3,000 applications for this year’s Cameron Impact Scholarship from all 50 states and abroad. Following an online application process, 76 finalists from 29 states were selected for interviews. Amie Lucas, Executive Director, commented, “Every year, we are overwhelmed by the efforts of young people to make a positive difference and create solutions for an increasingly complex world. This year’s class of Scholars has the ability to collaborate, support the greater community, and motivate countless impact makers along the way. The 2023 cohort is just getting started, and through hard work, commitment, and a growing network, their potential reach is really exciting. We are honored to be able to support them as they take this next step of many.”
A Cameron Impact Scholar must demonstrate a positive engagement in community service, exhibit strong leadership qualities, be active in extracurricular activities, and show strength in academics. Most notably, those identified as Cameron Impact Scholars must show the ability to make real, tangible contributions to their families, friends, and the greater society using their own individual gifts and talents.
The Bryan Cameron Education Foundation is a private, family foundation which was established by the Bay Area philanthropist, Bryan Cameron, in 2015 on the principle of making an impact. Through its four-year undergraduate scholarship program, the Foundation aims to provide ample support for extraordinary young adults who see their college education as a stepping stone toward a lifetime of contribution to the greater good. “On behalf of the Foundation, congratulations to our new Cameron Impact Scholars on their selection for this award. To our Grant Officers and Board of Directors, these young men and women distinguished themselves with an impressive record of academic achievement, meaningful involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership, and community service. We are confident that in college these Scholars will continue to learn, grow and develop their knowledge, skills and interests toward making a significant impact in their professional and personal lives. They join a community of now just over 100 Cameron Impact Scholars, who are both individually and together trying to make our world a better place. They are in position to do so due to their own talents and efforts, but also the investments their family, friends, teachers and now our Foundation have and will make in their lives. To each, we wish a bright future.” Bryan Cameron, Chairman and Founder.
