Learn more about our new mission and what it means for our school and community.
Is Moravian Academy still church related?
Yes, Moravian Academy continues to be a school in the Moravian tradition. As a large and inclusive independent school, the religious imprint of the Moravian tradition is stronger on some campuses than others, offering parents essential choices they need.
Moravian tradition is most evident on the Downtown Campus and can be seen in the weekly chapel program, in the historic Moravian chapel and church, Lovefeasts, and Vespers service.
The Merle-Smith campus also attends Lovefeasts and Vespers services, which remain an important experience for all Moravian Academy graduates.
The Swain Campus remains non-denominational and students at Swain Campus arrive at the Merle-Smith Campus finding the core values highly compatible with what they know from Swain.
Is mind, body, spirit still important?
These are core ideas and words that are brought to life through the practices at each campus. The mission is consistent with mind, body, spirit, but these exact words may be expressed best in the portrait of each campus.
Why did we need a new mission?
Because we are an old school made anew again. This mission helps us reflect our new identity.
Is there a separate mission for the Swain School?
No, there is one mission for all three campuses. This follows the governance structure; the Board of Trustees set the mission for the entire school.
Are there still mission skills?
These are core ideas and words that are brought to life through the practices at each campus. These also belong at the campus identity level and will emerge for the portraits of a learner.
