Post SIP 5th grade has been hard at work on their Hora del Genio projects. Students have time set aside in class to explore what they are passionate about. La Hora del Genio sparks curiosity, and students have an opportunity to become their own genius all while being engaged in, refining, and enhancing their Spanish language skills.
At the end, students create a final product that showcases their work. Students have been working on writing their own books, creating documentary films, commercials, doll prototypes, starting their own podcasts, and more! Students have also had “virtual visits” from people who have followed their passions and have made it their careers!
On Friday, April 30, students had the opportunity to get a “visit” from Ian Bush, the morning news anchor at Philadelphia News KYW 1060 AM and 103.9 FM. Ian spoke to the class about what inspired him to be on the radio, what a day in his life is like, shared behind-the-scenes stories, and discussed the importance of following their passions. In addition, students got a chance to ask him questions about who is his favorite person to interview, what the most unique place he interviewed someone, and what his favorite part of the job is. Lastly, he was also the first guest on one of our student’s podcasts, which will be her final product for her Hora del Genio.
Students are still buzzing about all things radio and all the behind-the-scenes information they got from Ian!
