To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22nd), I assigned my seventh-grade students the task of creating a postcard addressed to Planet Earth.
In preparation for the assignment, students had the option of watching a brief video about Earth Day and its history, learning about famous and/or young conservationists, or doing a project that promoted sustainability (creating recycled art or jewelry, nature journaling, working in their garden, etc.).
