Quadratics in Action

To demonstrate their knowledge of the basic features of a quadratic equation, my Algebra 2 students developed creative FlipGrid videos this week to show how quadratics can be applied to real life situations.

Within in their videos, students had to visually present a real-life scenario (ex. going on a family hike) and propose a question that would require a quadratic equation to solve (ex. "We're hiking up a mountain and are 640 feet high when Victoria throws her chocolate milk with a velocity of 48 feet per second. When will her milk hit the ground?). Showing their mathematical reasoning, students solved the equations and presented the answer to the proposed question.

The students did a wonderful job with the activity, applying the skills we learned in class to a wide-range of fun scenarios including riding a rollercoaster, visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and launching a rocket.
