SCORE (Student-Centered Original Research Experience) has begun for our seventh graders. Participation and completion of this experience is an important aspect of the seventh-grade year at Moravian.
Throughout the next few months and culminating with an evening exposition on May 7, all students will participate in personal research and learning on a topic of their choice. Some topics students chose to explore are racism in European football, colonization in space, climate change, carnivorous plants, cryptography, and gender equality and discrimination.
The students will work on their projects during periods created during the regular school day. Students will meet 14 times over the next months to research, inquire and learn about their self-selected topics. Each seventh grader has also been assigned to a mentor teacher to facilitate learning while also looking for additional resources outside of school by using Moravian Connect and the individual networks of community members. The research, writing, and design work is primarily completed in school though a student could elect to work on their project at home and during their free hours.
