Save the Date! Downtown Campus Community Lovefeasts for 2023-2024
On the Historic Downtown Campus, the Lovefeast has been a joyful part of school life since 1742! This unique tradition, open to all, dates back to 1727 and the early Moravian community in Herrnhut, Germany. Today, a Moravian Academy Lovefeast includes a special Chapel service where we welcome family and friends to campus, serve sugar cookies and apple juice for all to share, and fill the sanctuary of Central Moravian Church with the music of our wonderful student ensembles.
There will be three family lovefeasts this year for students on the Historic Downtown Campus in grades 1 through 8. Families sit together by grade, with older siblings joining their youngest sibling's class. We hope each student will welcome a guest (or two) to campus for each of these services, and have made them open and inclusive so that your family can decide who is best to attend each service with your child. Prior to the service, guests are invited into their children’s classroom(s) for a special visit and fun activities organized by our faculty.
The Fall Lovefeast for Families, Alumni, and Friends of the School
Friday, October 13, 2023 at 9:30 AM
Coffee reception at 8:00 AM and classroom visitation beginning at 8:15 AM.
This service is for Historic Downtown Campus students in grades 1-8, Downtown Families, and our extended Moravian Family, including alumni on campus for Alumni Weekend. We hope each student will have an adult guest from his or her family: mom(s) and/or dad(s), guardian(s), grandparent, aunt, uncle, caregiver or special friend.
The Thanksgiving Lovefeast for Grandparents and Other VIPs
Tuesday, November 21 at 9:30 AM
Coffee reception at 8:00 AM and classroom visitation beginning at 8:15 AM.
This service is for Historic Downtown Campus students in grades 1-8 and their grandparents (or other Very Important People in a student’s life). We hope each student will have an adult guest from her or his family, and all grandparents are welcome, even if your family has 4 or more. The service will be live-streamed for grandparents who live far away, and students are welcome to bring another adult if a grandparent is not available to attend. Please note: There will also be a special chapel on the Merle-Smith Campus for the grandparents of our Upper School students. This service will take place on Monday morning, November 20.
The Spring Lovefeast for Parents, Guardians and Caregivers
Wednesday, February 28, 2024
Coffee reception at 8:00 AM and classroom visitation beginning at 8:15 AM.
This service is for Historic Downtown Campus students in grades 1-8, plus their parents, guardians, and caregivers. We hope each student will have an adult guest (or two) from his or her family. Our hope is for family attendance at Lovefeasts to be as flexible and inclusive as possible. Due to limited space in the church, if your family has more than two parents, please consider the Family Lovefeast in September as an additional option for attendance.
