Spanish, French Language Students Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art

On Friday, May 13, students from Mr. Sommer's Spanish art history course and from Ms. Wert's French 3 class (who are ending the year with their "les arts" unit), visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City!

For some of our young adults, this was their first field trip in years.  Students were given the opportunity to learn more about Spanish and French artists and some of their most well-known works of art thanks to Mr. Sommers artistic expertise (in Spanish and English). Ms. Wert translated into French and students were given the opportunity to offer their own insights and observations in both languages throughout the morning. 

After enjoying some lunch out on the grand steps outside, it was time to get creative and use the target language themselves. Each student was  asked to choose a painting or sculpture that struck them and was given a choice board of options, such as an original sketch recreation and a written reflection, a 'round-table' discussion/analysis video, or a TikTok "guided tour" story series. Mr. Sommers, Mr. Axford and Ms. Wert agree: It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday, watching these students apply what they've learned thus far and blend language and art/culture in a real-world setting.
