Spanish Immersion students in SIP fourth grade have maintained contact with their beloved former kindergarten teacher, Sra. María Martín Sánchez, since her return to Spain a few years ago.
Since her time at Moravian teaching students in the Spanish Immersion program, Sra. Martín now finds herself on the other end of language learning and teaching, as an English kindergarten teacher at Ayalde Trilingual School in Bizkaia, Spain.
This year students were able to Zoom with Sra. Martín to talk about the holidays and what Christmas and Epiphany traditions she has with her family. Students wrote and sent letters to Sra. Martín. The handwritten letters took over a month to travel from Bethlehem, PA, to Bizkaia, Spain!
When asked why they were so excited to keep up the connection with their former teacher, students said, "Because it's fun to connect with someone that we haven't seen since kindergarten," and "because you can remember her and you can speak with her in Spanish and practice your Spanish with her." Thanks to snail mail and technology, we can keep in touch with people all over the world and learn the joys of staying connected.
