Story Class Collaborates with Residents of Good Shepherd's Raker Center

March 29, 2023

The spring is upon us, and with COVID abating, this means that the Story class is restarting its community story collaboration. This year, a special opportunity has come our way: working with the Residents of the Raker Center of Good Shepherd Home in Allentown.

The Raker Center houses and cares for nearly 100 Residents who have severe disabilities and various diagnoses (cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, quadriplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and spina bifida).

Through a series of four sessions, our students will be paired with a GS Resident and spend time with them and complete multi-sensory story activities together. At the end of the project, our students produce a creative artifact for their Story Buddy that reflects who they are, their stories, and the time they have spent together.  The goal of the program is to learn about inclusivity, the role of personal narrative in one's life, and most importantly, the value and dignity of every human.
