All Together Now/Todos Juntos Ahora: Reading together to build a strong community of learners

Instructions: All Beginning and Lower School students in preschool through 5th grade will be taking part in an exciting summer reading experience this year. Our theme, All Together Now/Todos Juntos Ahora, will not only frame our summer reading assignment, but will also guide conversations and experiences during the 2023-24 school year.  Rising preschool through second grade students should read at least three of the assigned books. Rising third through fifth graders are required to read at least one, however, we encourage our students to read more! Depending on the students’ ability, books may be read independently or listened to read out loud.

Students enrolled in the Spanish Immersion Program in second, third, and fourth grade should complete their reading assignment and written response in Spanish.  Students entering Post Spanish Immersion (fifth grade) have the option of completing these assignments in Spanish or in English; however, any student wishing to continue their Spanish studies in middle school should complete their assignments in Spanish.

After reading the books, please use the template below to respond to the writing prompt and illustration assignment. All students are required to bring their completed work to their classroom teacher on the first day of school. The writing prompts and illustration assignment will be used as part of an interactive art installation during the 2023-24 school year.

Writing Prompt: After reading the assigned books, respond to the following prompt: “I'm inspired to help build a stronger school community by…” Use your best handwriting in your favorite color pen for this assignment. No pencils please.
