On Friday, June 11, the Swain community came together to celebrate and honor the 8th Grade Class as they move on in their educational journey.
In what seemed like a fitting way to encapsulate their final year at Swain, the ceremony was delayed, and ultimately moved indoors due to weather; but with the help of our community, we made it happen.
There were so many factors about this year's ceremony that were affected due to our COVID-19 safety measures and protocols. Graduates were only allotted 8 guests, alumni were unable to join, and everyone in attendance wore masks. Regardless of all these changes, however, for many of us, it was the first time all year the community was able to be together (in one room), for a common purpose. And in so many ways, that was more than enough.
As the 8th Grade moves on with their education, we know they are more resilient and ready than ever, because they made it through the 2020-2021 school year with grace, compassion, and an appreciation for being together. As Dr. Webster noted in his commencement speech, this class is excellent, not just in their attention to learning, but because they are kind and good people.
Congratulations, 8th Graders! Go change the world.
