The Power of Live Storytelling

This spring was certainly different for the face-to-face, experiential Story course.

Our Country Meadows Retirement Community project was cancelled before we could get started, and our everyday, interactive story activities had to adapt to an online environment!  A centerpiece of the course is the live storytelling and sharing of our personal stories.  We all persevered and shared our stories, first in written form, then in videos, and some of us, on Zoom.

Students may choose any subject and moment from their lives to share as a story.  As you watch Taylor Busch ‘20 and Addison Kovats-Bernat ‘20 recall formative moments in their lives, you may share their experiences and relate to them.  As one Story student this semester put it, “...all of our stories teach others something and also give us deeper insight on what they have gone or are going through. While you may not see the meaning or importance of your own story, telling it allows you to share a piece of ourselves with the outside world and makes us more open-minded, patient, and understanding.”
