Third Grade Embarks on Field Trip to Winakung Native Lenape Village
On Tuesday, September 26, third graders from the Historic Downtown Campus embarked on a memorable field trip to Waterloo Village in New Jersey.
Our journey led us to the Winakung Native Lenape Village, where we delved deep into the realm of Woodland wisdom, forest food, shelters, and village life.
It was an enriching experience that allowed us to learn and appreciate the traditions and knowledge of this Native American culture. Students engaged in hands-on activities including learning how to make a fire, identifying native plants, investigating artifacts, exploring an archeological site, learning about and playing Lenape games, making flour out of dried corn, and twisting fibers to create cordage. Students had a blast and learned so much about the Lenape Native Americans who first lived on the land.
