It is a pleasure to announce that Mr. Torsie Judkins will be joining our admissions team this summer as the Director of Enrollment Management.
This is an important time in our school's history, which makes this new position so significant. Torsie will be our first all-school Director of Enrollment Management, whose focus each year will be on enrolling a student body of more than 900 children and young adults at our school. This starts with managing and supporting the admissions offices at each campus, but extends to providing leadership for retention and re-enrollment as well as institutional research, market forecasting, financial aid management, and strategic innovations. In plain words, Torsie will be a senior leader at Moravian Academy and will help assemble the student body at the Downtown Campus, the Merle-Smith Campus, and The Swain School.
Torsie brings to our school over 20 years of experience in independent schools, both as an admissions director, a consultant for families, and as a director of diversity. He will join us this summer from the International School of Brooklyn, a PK-8 independent, language immersion school in New York City, where he served as the Director of Admissions and Enrollment. He holds a Master of Professional Studies in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College and a B.S. in Business Administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College. He is also a graduate of an independent school, Durham Academy.
I would like to thank each of the 12 members of our search committee who interviewed many candidates from a national pool and conducted thorough, thoughtful deliberations to help select the right person, as well as the many students, faculty, staff, and parents from Moravian and Swain who met with our finalist candidates. The impressions Torsie made on our community matched what I heard from those who have worked with him for years: he is a man of integrity and someone who celebrates childhood as well as the goals that lead young people to excel; he is a skilled connector who listens to people and their stories, and he is a strategic thinker who knows how schools grow and refine over time.
When you see Torsie on campus in the fall, please offer him a warm welcome to our community.
