Middlers Compete in Anime and Manga Trivia Contest
On March 6th, the Middle School library held a fun trivia contest for students focused on the anime and manga of popular Japanese cartoons and graphic novels.
Students signed up in teams of two to compete for a chance to earn a lunch of their choice in the library.
The contest was done through the help of the Library Leaders team led by Fisola Oyerokun '24, Angelina Bakopoulos '24, and Inaaya Chaudhry '24. The team helped write and direct a commercial that aired on MSBG and acted out with the help of Ashley Gable '24, Jackson Reid '24, and Kyle Bolden '24.
It was a fierce competition with more than 25 students vying for the top three spots. The trivia consisted of 48 questions showcasing six different series. In the end, Caleb Greene '26 led all scores with a total of 45,886 points answering 39 out of the 48 correct.
With this contest, I hope to encourage more reading and trips to the library by introducing these popular titles/series that are featured on Netflix, Hulu, and Cable TV shows, including Naruto, Bleach, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, and Fruits Basket. These titles introduce students to a small fraction of Japanese culture and, by extension, develop curiosity and more foot traffic in the library.
