Please join Moravian Academy in welcoming another new team member to the Lower and Middle Schools starting on January 3rd. We are pleased to announce that Ms. Kristi Johnson '97 has been appointed as Director of Support Services for Grades Primer-8.
Ms. Johnson brings 15 years of professional school counseling experience to this important office at Moravian. She completed her B.A. in Psychology and her M.A. in Elementary School Counseling at Lehigh University and is a member of the national and state school counseling associations. Ms. Johnson comes to Moravian from the Centennial District, where she has served as a school counselor, and co-builder of support services teams, for elementary schools serving over 900 students.
At Moravian, Ms. Johnson will coordinate learning support services, which include individual and group instruction in social and emotional health, academic coaching, facilitating social dynamics, using restorative practices, and helping all students to understand their own minds, bodies, and spirits. All our teachers fill these roles at different times for our students and Ms. Johnson will provide key coordination, expertise, and support as we further develop this area, which is essential to a successful culture of curiosity.
Kristi Johnson also knows Moravian Academy very well. She is a proud Moravian Academy alumna, having attended and graduated from the Upper School. She is a parent of three current Moravian Academy students. When our faculty and staff interviewed and observed her with our students during the interviews, many noted how quickly she built relationships and how adeptly she was able to see each student as a special person with his or her own perspectives and stories.
We look forward to Ms. Johnson joining the Moravian Academy team in January.
