Update: The Virtual Birthday Lovefeast video is now posted.

To all members of our Moravian Academy community,

Please join us on Wednesday, April 22  for our first-ever virtual All-School Birthday Lovefeast... and this year we really mean all school! With the magic of the internet, we hope students, parents, alumni and all our friends will be able to come together to celebrate 278 years of learning and growth.

Mind: Please register for the Lovefeast and let us know you will be a part of it  - Register for Virtual Birthday Lovefeast Why register? So we can include your name in the video credits of those who are present, and you can see who else is with you in spirit.

Body: Before 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21, take a photo or video of yourself baking one of three classic Moravian Lovefeast treats (recipes attached!), and email your image(s) to School Chaplain Rev. Jennifer Nichols at jnichols@mamail.net. See below for more information on this!

Spirit: On Wednesday 4/22, please click this link - Virtual 278th Birthday Lovefeast to join the Lovefeast online. Don't forget your cookies and juice!

Let us partake of the lovefeast...

The Lovefeast began with a simple, communal meal. It was August 13, 1727. The early Moravians were living on the estate of Count Zinzendorf in Berthelsdorf, Germany. On that Wednesday morning, they were deeply inspired by their shared sense of community and didn’t want to return to their separate homes for dinner, so Count Zinzendorf sent them food from his kitchen.

This they partook of together in love.

This year, as we honor our unique tradition and the 278th Birthday of Moravian Academy, we will all be in our separate homes. But we can still share a simple meal together in spirit! Attached are three recipes from our kitchen to yours:

1) Moravian Academy’s actual sugar cookie recipe

2) A sugar cookie recipe for an easier, home-sized batch, and

3) A centuries-old recipe for Moravian Lovefeast Buns believed to go all the way back to Countess Benigna herself!

Now we need your help! If you have the ingredients available or can safely access them, please try one of these recipes at home, or a similar recipe of your own, then send us photos or a video of your family making, decorating, and/or eating your sweet Moravian treat! Please email your images to School Chaplain Rev. Jennifer Nichols at jnichols@mamail.net before 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21. These images will be used as part of our Virtual 278th Birthday Lovefeast, allowing us, once again, to partake together in love.
