As the end of our regular season approaches, our teams will look to position themselves for playoff runs.
Our Varsity Girls’ basketball team will play its final Colonial League regular season game this evening as we host Saucon Valley. We will also take the time to celebrate our three seniors, Maya Ettle '20, Grace Moser '20, and Quinn O’Connor '20, and their families before the varsity contest. The team currently sits in second place in the Colonial League East Division with a 14-3 record and is poised to host a first round Colonial League playoff game next Saturday, February 8th. The team will close out the regular season by traveling to Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg next Tuesday, February 4th for a varsity only contest.
The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team has continued to compete extremely well in the Colonial League. With an exciting win last weekend at Wilson, the team has taken hold of 1st place in the Colonial League East Division. Fans at the win vs. Wilson also saw Abe Atiyeh '20 score his 1,000th point for Moravian. Congratulations to Abe!
Tonight’s match up at Saucon Valley could prove to be decisive for the boys. A victory in this game will guarantee them a 1st place finish in the East Division and a 1st round bye in the Colonial League Playoffs. Before yesterday’s home varsity game with Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, we took some time to honor our seniors, Abe Atiyeh '20, Navin Ferrari '20, Jagger Hornik '20, Tyler Joseph '20, Jai Kandola '20, and Willem Parent '20, and their families.
The night was capped off as the boys defeated their opponents by an 82-75 score. With the victory the boys’ record stands at 14-5 overall and 12-5 in the league.
Our swimmers had a light week from a competition standpoint, as they hosted Pocono Mountain East on Tuesday. Both teams came out on top with some impressive performances. The girls’ team won by a 97-73 margin while the boys’ score was 103-66. Pepper Ritchey '21 had another impressive meet as she broke 2 pools record on the day. She established a new record in the 200 IM with 2:11:00 time and in the 500 FR with a 5:09:92 time. Congrats to Pepper!
As our winter sports teams continued their competitive seasons last weekend, some of our fall sport athletes and coaches were being recognized for their outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. Senior soccer players, Austin Recinos '20 and Gabrielle Oudin '20 attended the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Banquet to receive their all-state honors. Coach Hartman of the boys’ soccer team was also recognized as Coach of the Year. The next day, Avi Singh '20 and Gabrielle Oudin '20 also represented Moravian Academy at the Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete dinner. Gabrielle was selected as the winner of the award and received a $1000 Scholarship from the Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete foundation. Congratulations to all our student-athletes and their families!
Good luck to all of the athletes as they continue the winter season! Please stay up to date with our teams by following them on the moravianathletics.org site.
