At Moravian Academy, we are a true community of learners.
The same curiosity that inspires students to engage in thoughtful and meaningful ways with their teachers, each other, and the greater world ripples throughout our parents, guardians, and families too. Earlier this month, we announced the MA Community Education Series (MACES), our own year-long virtual series to cover topics we think our families will be interested in, led by our in-house faculty experts and thought leaders.
On September 19, 2023, we launched this series with "The Role of the Board at Independent Schools: A Conversation with Head of School Adrianne Finley Odell and Board Chair Lori Schoeneman." Our conversation outlined much of the behind-the-scenes work conducted by the dedicated experts that form our Board, including the topics of: the role of executive and finance committees, governance, audit, buildings and grounds, institutional advancement, DEIJB, and emerging trends. If you missed this conversation, it is available to watch below.
The next educational opportunity takes place this Thursday, September 28. The ISACS 2023-24 Parents Series -- consisting of six one-hour webinars led by national experts in the fields of education, parenting, and child development -- is designed to strengthen partnerships with parents in support of essential school/home relationships.
Voice Lessons for Parents & Caregivers: What to Say, When to Say It & How to Listen
Wendy Mogel, Clinical Psychologist & Author
Most parents are adept and savvy communicators, even when mild tensions arise in relationships—until they’re talking to their children. Addressing this growing challenge for families, Dr. Mogel developed a series of specific “voice lessons” for parents. Using
humor and act outs, she’ll share how a shift in vocal style, verbal content, and timing will lead children to listen more attentively, communicate with more enthusiasm, respect, and sincerity and cooperate with more alacrity. She’ll reveal how each age and stage of a child’s life brings novel opportunities to connect. And the heartening news is that parents can model and teach the foundational skills of communication starting at birth...or anytime beyond. Participants will leave with specific skills and strategies to use with children of diverse temperaments that span childhood and adolescence. The recording of this webinar will only be available until. December 31, 2023.
As a service to our families, Moravian Academy paid a flat participation fee so that community members can watch these webinars for free. Pre-registration, however, is required. Approximately 1-2 weeks before each Parent Series webinar, we will share the pre-registration link with you. Once you have registered, you will receive a Zoom reminder email from ADVIS 24 hours before the webinar.
We invite you to join us for both the MACES and ISACS/ADVIS webinar series. Learning together is one of the best ways to engage with our community in the spirit of curiosity that imbues each of our campuses, and Moravian Academy is pleased to offer you these educational opportunities.
In partnership for the education of your children,
Adrianne Finley Odell
