Fifth-Grade Visits PBS39 Studio

February 25, 2020

Our fifth graders had the unique opportunity to connect their work and learning in MABC, our Lower School Broadcasting Company, with a field trip to Lehigh Valley Public Television Channel 39, last Thursday, February 20th.

The students arrived and divided into groups and were taken on an extensive tour of the facilities. They were able to see the equipment used to transmit television and radio and visited sound stages, editing rooms and a green screen room. They also talked to local reporters Tracy Yatsko and Britany Sweeney. The students were an inquisitive audience for "Es Tiempo," a Lehigh Valley show which highlights all that is happening in the local Latinx community.

After the taping of "Es Tiempo," host Victor Martinez and author Christine Osoria, answered their questions in Spanish and English. Christine Osoria, who was interviewed about her first book, 'Rosalia,' taught them about Honduras, and the food and culture of her Hondureñan family, as well as demonstrated Spanglish, which Victor Martinez welcomed as part of their interview.

You can view the Es Tiempo program on Saturday, February 29th at 3:30 pm. After it airs, the program will be available on the PBS Channel 39 website. You will hear the interview that our fifth graders heard and will see them waving at the camera! The students were also able to give the station ID after the program, which can be heard at various times during the week.
