Coping with Loneliness Through Music

Music is what many people turn to in times of need, comfort, joy, and sadness. According to Dr. Amy Novotney from the American Psychological Association, "The researchers [have] found that listening to and playing music increase the body's production of the antibody immunoglobulin A and natural killer cells — the cells that attack invading viruses and boost the immune system's effectiveness. Music also reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol." 

Many people will listen to lonely music, even when they don’t feel that way. They feel an emotional connection that can make them feel comforted, to feed their sadness, or even make them happier.
